connecting educators & enhancing learning

Permalink Reply by Renee Lubaway on March 9, 2011 at 9:44am Hi Renee, and don't worry about the age of the thread. Since MACUL 11 is almost here, it's probably a good idea to revive the thread and get people looking at their Twitter friends again.
I think the best way to start learning about how to use Twitter (besides having a guide on the side) might be to watch a couple of overviews. This one by David Hopkins - Twitter in Education - is a very good start.
Once you get comfortable with the terms and creating a list of people to follow, I suggest that people download and install a stand-alone Twitter client, like Tweetdeck. Once you get into using Twitter as your Professional Learning Network, you'll need something a bit more specialized to help you keep track of and manage the stream of tweets.
And the last thing - the #! is called a 'Hash Bang' or 'Shebang'. There is a whole thing about what they do that I won't even try to explain here, so if you want to read about it - you can check the story at Webmonkey.
If you do give someone your profile without the hashbang, once they land at Twitter, it will be converted to one anyway with no issues. For example: my page will transform once you arrive: http://twitter.com/ronhoutman
If you need any other advice of help, please ask. Also, make sure to stop by the MACUL Conference Blog and follow the hashtag #MACUL11 too.

Permalink Reply by Penny Hildinger on March 13, 2011 at 1:45pm Hi Steve,
I have a Twitter account. Much like you, I just do not have the time to watch it. The people I follow share great stuff though. Mostly teachers and tech people.
My user name is pendinger. If you look at who I follow you will find some really good ones. What I did at first was look at who the people I follow have in their Followers and Following sections and came up with quite a good group.
Happy tweeting! Penny
