MACUL Space

connecting educators & enhancing learning

Hey, I started using twitter (inspired by Steve Dembo). I'm still looking for good educators to follow and I thought the MACULSpace group would be a good group to follow on twitter. It seems I need some more distractions in my life :-)

So, if you wouldn't mind, who out there twitters and what is your address?

I think you may be able to use twitter (or something like it) effectively as a formative assessment tool in a one-to-one environment. Students could respond periodically to the twitter prompt and their responses could be aggregated immediately in chronological order. The teacher could see things like "the concept of Nullification is unclear" or "I understand the change from jeffersonian to jacksonian democracy". Even things like "please slow down" or "I zoned out because........." could be posted.

You may be able to do something like this with the capabilities of the GoogleDocs spreadsheet, I'll whip up an example to show you what I mean.

Here's the link to the form.

The spreadsheet can be viewed at
Lecture Response SpreadSheet

Basically I would like something students could press or type in quickly throughout the class. If you look at the spreadsheet you'll notice that it updates every five minutes so your results don't show up right away.

This is a REALLY neat idea! I've seen it used for professional development purposes and other such things, but I love the idea of having kids "check in" on a regular basis. Thanks for sharing!

I love this too! Thanks for sharing- I can't wait to play with this.

I did a real quick pole about "Test Preparedness" with three of my sections using the googledocs spreadsheet. Its not an earth shattering pole or anything, I just wanted to see how I could do this with a bunch of kids in a classroom with a single computer connected to the internet. It was more of a management thing. All in all it went pretty smoothly, but I think it would have been better if I had been able to demonstrate it to the entire class, or created some Visual step by step instructions..

I'm using Twadget on my computer Desktop, and TwitterTools in my WP blog's sidebar. The really cool thing is that it only puts the twitter content I want in the blog post. On another note-I'm using my cell phone and gcast for a verbal classroom update (fun, fun, fun). The gcast gadget is in the blog's sidebar.

I really like using the twitter widgets to update my blog.....really easy to use. I don't have to sign on to anything, and I write in short bursts better anyways.

I need to catch up to you! I need to investigate more twitter widgets.

I introduced twitter to a group of about 70 today and I could see that people could not make the connection about how powerful the network can be!
Everyone, we need LOTS of professional development and dialogue about Web 2.0 tools! How are we going to change teaching and learning with these tools?
