Parent Access?

I put this in the list serve but wanted to cover here as well.
I am curious what districts are doing about parent access. We currently have them log in as a guest and the the teachers communicate the enrollment key with them thru e-mail or newsletters. Any other ideas? Has anyone created a role for parents? If so, what are the important functions to turn on and off?

Tammy~ This is a great question. We are also talking about the best way to do this. Currently, our parents don't have any access unless their son/daughter logs in with the student account... I hope there are some people with suggestions!

So in moodle docs there are directions on setting up a parent role http://docs.moodle.org/en/Parent_role but I think that it gives too much access. Guest access is good. The problem is that the parent has to keep track of all the enrolment keys for the different courses. That could get crazy. You could have a "generic login" but again, I don't want the person to be enrolled in the course when they come in, just be able to look around.

We are trying to figure this out right now also. If you create a generic login it would just store all the enrollment keys for all the classes so I think that is out of the question. I would love to be able to LDAP to my skyward server that holds both my student and parents accounts. Then the parents could log in as themselves and use the teacher enrollment keys. Once that is done I would try to setup the parent roll.

You mention list serve? Is their a Michigan Moodle list serve?
