The MACUL Special Interest Group for Elementary Educators (SIG-EE) welcomes you. Post questions, share resources, and collaborate with other elementary educators here.
The SIG-EE co-sponsored a "Day of Discovery" with SIG-MM and Discovery Education on October 27, 2008. It was an awesome day of learning. Check out the handouts and presentations at the
Day of Discovery wiki.
At the 2009 MACUL Conference on March 18, the SIG-EE sponsored two pre-conference events:
Get in Touch With the Digital Storyteller Within This session was facilitated by Jason Ohler, President's Professor, Educational Technology, University of Alaska. Website: http://www.jasonohler.com. Dr. Ohler was a MACUL Conference featured speaker. Participants spent the day learning together to better understand the digital natives in their lives and had fun in the process. They spent a day learning how to speak their language; create digital stories, documentaries, and other kinds of new media narrative using simple, powerful, inexpensive tools. They left with a digital story completed or well underway.
Integrating Technology With the K-5 Crowd - Get Excited! This session was facilitated by Gina Loveless, Instructional Technologist/Data Specialist, Kalamazoo RESA and Mike Bryant, Discovery Education Regional Manager.
Participants spent an afternoon of hands-on exploration of interactive websites for K-5 students, including Kerpoof, Wordle, Voicethread, wikis, and comic creators. Valuable discussions took place about how these tools can improve student motivation and achievement. These powerful tools use a mixture of text, video, and images to meet the learning needs of all students.
Our Annual Meeting was held on Thursday, March 19. Ginal Loveless was re-elected as Director and James Stewart was elected as Communications Officer.
