Here at Quincy HS, school is just about to begin as is the case throughout the state. This trimester, I find a few new classes I will teach with lots of students. We are offering a class in digital imaging that will have two sections this first tri, and one section of web design. I am splitting yearbook production to include both the hard copy yearbook (traditional) as well as the video part (the DVD) of the book that is included each and every year. Our enrollment in the district seems to be up(at least in the 5th and 3rd grades). What is great is that the high school will have 16 exchange students from South America, Europe and Asia. What an excellent way to bring diversity to the high school. Have a wonderful year. When is the fall workshop and thanks for the tip on Clorox wipes- just signed up to receive some free.

As far as Ms Fisher, would still like to see some information on adobe Premiere Pro or Lightroom-- thanks

Sounds like you will be quite busy this semester. That's great about the 16 exchange students. I have a few each year. Yes, we all will have to keep things clean in our labs this year. Here is a photo of my updated Multimedia lab with new iMacs.

Each year, the Michigan Association of Computer Users In Learning recognizes exemplary leadership in classroom teaching with technology and building and district technology leadership. Three categories are awarded: Outstanding Educator of the Year, Outstanding Teacher of the Year and Technology Coordinator of the Year. Do you have a colleague or staff member who stands out and should be considered for these awards? The MACUL Outstanding Leader Program is a perfect opportunity to recognize great work and contributions to your school and district. The SMARTer Kids Foundation will be donating a $14,000 prize package to the winners in the Outstanding Educator and Teacher categories. The prize package includes a SMART board, digital projector, airliner wireless slate and student response system.

Information and applications can be found at http://www.macul.org/grantsawards/200910maculawardinformation/
Deadline for the 2010 awards is Friday, January 8, 2010. For more information, contact Ieva Kule in the MACUL office at ikule@macul.org

SIGMM December 2009 Update

Our fall "Tech or Treat" workshop on October 23rd, hosted at Harper Creek High School in cooperation with the Discovery Education Network, SIGEE and SIGWeb, went very well with about 75 in attendance.

Start planning for the MACUL Conference in Grand Rapids in March 2010!

SIGMM is planning two preconference 1/2 day workshops with Leslie Fisher covering iLife 09 Tips and Tricks and Digital Photography and photo editing. We are also planning two 1/2 day precon workshops on video production by JIm Morrison. Sign up early as space is limited. These are some excellent precon options for any educators interested in these topics.

Are you interested in getting involved with SIGMM? Please contact myself, Lisa Wickman or Melinda Waffle (SIGMM officers) for more information about how you can get involved.

Multimedia in education? The future of SIGMM? What should SIGMM be doing that we are not doing now? How can we best recruit new officers? Are you interested in getting involved?

Feel free to post here or contact myself (michaelrio@aol.com), Lisa Wickman or Melinda Waffle (see SIGMM page on the MACUL web site) to share ideas, questions, comments or ask how you can get involved?

(originally sent on the SIGMM listserv)

Hello to All SIGMM Steering Committee and regular members,

We will be having our SIGMM 2010 Annual meeting during lunch (not breakfast) on Thursday March 11, 2010 at the Grand Rapids MACUL conference.

There are three positions open, the SIGMM DIrector, the Assistant Director and the Communications Officer. All are 2-year terms. Any potential candidate needs to be:

- A SIGMM member
- available to attend about 5 days of mandatory meetings throughout the school year in addition to the conference
- And of course someone interested in helping with all SIGMM functions- promoting multimedia in education, planning workshops and pre-conference sessions, working with other MACUL officers and SIGs, etc.

We encourage anyone interested to get involved with SIGMM one way or another!

At this time I am NOT running for re-election, I am following a tradition of two-year rotations per position that was started to promote broader involvement but preferably keep people involved moving up to maintain stability and allow newer officers to "learn the ropes" before running for a higher position. Having said that, any SIGMM member may run for any position open. Let me know if you have any questions or want to be on the ballot at our annual meeting.

So far SIGMM Assistant Director Lisa Wickman is planning to run for the SIGMM Director position. Communication's officer Melinda Waffle is planning to run for the Assistant Director position. At this time nobody is running yet for the Communications Officer position.

Don't forget we have some excellent pre-conference workshops planned on Wednesday March 10, 2010. We have two with Leslie Fisher covering iLife tips and tricks and Digital Photography/photo editing. Space is limited so sign up soon! We also have two 1/2 day video sessions with Jim Morrison.

All questions, ideas and opinions are welcome! Visit the SIGMM group on MACUL Space too!

I hope to see you all at the MACUL conference in March!

Just to add, all SIGMM are welcome to come to our annual meeting during lunchtime on Thursday March 11, 2010 at the MACUL Conference. But if you want a box lunch you have to sign up both as a SIGMM member (SIG dues) and an extra $5 for the annual meeting lunch (see registration form). If you do not sign up for the annual meeting $5 then you will not get a box lunch. But you can still attend the annual meeting. Just to clarify! :-)

Does signing up for a SIGMM Pre-conference workshop include the SIG dues?
