Hi I'm a new and excited member. I hope to share ideas and get great tips to use with my students.

Thanks,
Holly

Does anyone have suggestions for career explorations websites etc. I am using Career Cruising but I was looking for some other good ideas!

How are other Spec.Ed teachers dealing with the demands of the Michigan Merit Curr. for our kids?? I am a ELA teacher in a Day Treatment and it seems that many of my students will not get a diploma in a timely manner due to the outrageous criteria....

My school is still trying to figure it out. I teach math in a Day Treatment program and Algebra is difficult for my students, but they need 4 yrs of math for a diploma. Also, it is difficult to teach algebra to students who function at a 3rd grade level in math.

Things have been quiet, but let me comment on the last post back in April. Much of what we call math disability is nothing more than arithmetic disability. Might it be easier to teach algebra if the arithmetic were invisible? Suppose you used Excel so that the student could concentrate on the logic of algebra and not be concerned with computation. Computation is the part of mathematics that is most easily automated. Perhaps arithmetic was the basis of mathematics in the 19th century, but not in the 21st.

Not a math teacher but interesting post. I teach special education and wondering have you created lessons in Excel to  use with students?

I have been in touch with several math teachers who were interested.  But things have not gotten started yet.  Anyone interested in a group project.  Excel for math?

Let me know at drz@enabling.org

Greetings!  I don't know if this group is remaining active, but it's the closest thing I could find to what I was hoping for.  I'm a high school special education teacher, and I teach our Algebra 2 class.  I'm always looking for ways to improve what I do and make it more effective and/or engaging.

@Lindsey Brewster,  Have you ever searched O Net?

http://www.onetonline.org/

It is wonderful and my students really use it often!
