Am attending my first MACUL conference this week. Am interested in ways to use online and blended learning with my advanced middle school math students as a supplement to classroom instruction.  Any recommendations on presentations to attend?

Some things that I do in the classroom are online so I get the perspective from both sides I think.  Now I'm not sure if our online learning is complete like others but I can still get a pretty good idea of what is happening with my students.

To answer your question, I think it depends on the student.  Some students have real trouble listening to a teacher or other students so an online environment may work better for them because they have the ability to teach themselves.  I also think other students are needy for support so an online environment will not work for them.  So I think student could potentially learn in an online environment and still compete globally.

Christy's question is a good one; statistics on college acceptance rates from online high school students seems to be non-existent, at least with my cursory search. I did find an excellent FAQ sheet from NACOL with lots of data, but not what we are looking for. I have written Susan Patrick, president/CEO of NACOL, to see if she is aware of any studies done in this area. I will post what I find out from her!

I teach Spanish online for Westwood Cyber High and am looking for websites and ideas to help teach Spanish through project-based learning.  I have found it very difficult to never actually work with my students in person.  It seems to be a lot to communicate online.  If anyone has any ideas, please send them my way.
