I want a SmartBoard and SynchronEyes.
My Tech Director, principal and superintendent all said, "No." (No to the grants I've tried to write as well.) When I talk about technology integration, engaging and motivating learners and how technology can help improve student achievement, folks look at me like I'm speaking a foreign language. I think I've crossed the digital divide and I'm only 30 miles from home.
After 9 years as tech support I became a teacher in order to be a better technology integration leader some day (working on my masters now). Had to get in the pool with teachers to fully understand what they go through. Wow! I've been in the deep end now for three years with my hands tied behind my back. I found out the hard way that classroom teachers cannot fully integrate technology without support from above. It doesn't take money, which is what everyone claims. There are so many grants out there. What it takes is collaboration, change leadership and capacity building.
