Creative Excuses For Not Using Technology

Another great Ning site Classroom 2.0 posted a thread by Tim Holt on excuses you have heard teachers say to avoid using technology. Here are some from that post...what is the best you have heard???

  • "all of these web 2.0 tools will be out of fashion next year."
  • "Because they will never learn how to write cursive if we let them use the computer for all their writing."
  • "Technology will replace teachers in the classroom. We'll all be out of a job -…

What do you make?

You may have heard this one about a teacher sitting at a dinner party when the discussion turns to teachers and their schedules and the money the make. The host turns to a teacher that is present and just asks them flat out "What do you make?" Below is the response

You want to know what I make?

I make kids wonder,

I make them question.

I make them criticize.

I make them apologize and… Continue

Are we losing something?

I have been a technology advocate for almost my entire educational life first as a teacher then a technology director but I am becoming more alarmed by the amount of attention we pay toward Web 2.0 and other tools of technology to the exclusion of thoughful application and passionate integration of these same tools.

I love Web 2.0 and believe in their potential to create powerful learning experiences in today's classrooms but I cannot in good conscience recommend using a blog to teach a… Continue

Wow, welcome REMC 39! An entire REMC all signed up, I'm impressed :)

So, would I address you as Mr. REMC or Mrs?

Either way, it's nie to have more support people on the site :)

Sounds like you're a very busy guy, John. I know how much work one district can be, but your sphere of influence is much, much larger. Whoa...

Thanks for the kind words on the Digital Natives post John. While I consider myself far from being a master teacher, I'm flattered that you think I'm exhibiting master teacher traits.

Hi John,

With your interest in Web 2.0 and Education Technology, I recommend you take a look at Wiziq's virtual classroom and authorstream's power point presentation platform. Both are web based platforms, have a bunch of features and free basic service. Here’s a public class recording you might find of interest.
