Skyping to Japan ... and back

Had fun helping the Calvin College Handbell Choir conduct a videolink between Grand Rapids, Michigan and Tokyo, Japan last week. My wife is the director of the Calvin group and we connected with our good friend Scott Ponzani who teaches at the Christian Academy in Japan. See http://caj.or.jp/

We had the wonderful opportunity to visit Scott in Japan a few years ago with our two sons who were teenagers at the time (now 20 and 22).

The videolink was made with a simple Skype connection, and we had… Continue

Teacher Education Focus at the 2008 MACUL conference

Had a great meeting today with Susan English (Aquinas College), Julia VanderMolen (Davenport University), and Andrew Topper (Gand Valley State University). We talked about how we can establish a better MACUL conference emphasis for undergraduate and graduate students as well as schools of education faculty.

Among the things we discussed are how we can create innovative ways to provide registration incentives to attend the conference, establish a poster area or student technology showcase for un… Continue

Ric: These folks have a very extensive list of Educational Technology conferences for the 2009-2010 season, but sadly don't have the MACUL conference on their list.

If you would like to add one, you can email them via the contact info at the top of the list: Clayton R. Wright, crw77 at gmail dot com

We have a custom-built tool that we maintain with an in-house team. It handles the call-for-proposal process, and the approved proposals feed in to the scheduler along with the space that we've contracted for.

What tool set do you use? I imagine that your needs are similar to ours. We should talk to see if there are opportunities.

Thanks, Ric. Thrilled to be here. We are working in my district to develop a blended learning model built around 21st century skills. Following the VHS model for professional development, content design and course delivery. I attended the NACOL conference in Phoenix a couple of weeks ago, heard a lot about the great things going on in Michigan. Congratulations for what y'all are getting done there.
