Update to the MACUL Board on August 3, 2007... ATA Technology Academy – The Summer 2008 ATA Technology Academy is taking place the week of August 6-10 at the University of Michigan-Flint. Workshops will be held for Making Your Own Website, CareerForward, Grantwriting and ATA III. Please be thinking about how MACUL can be more effective in offering ATA courses in 2008. AT&T/MACUL Student Technology Showcase – The 2007 AT&T/MACUL Student Technology Showcase will be held on Wednesday, September 26 in the Michigan Capitol Building in Lansing. Because of summer vacation, registration numbers are low and teams are needed. Please encourage teams to register at http://www.classroomhelp.com/att. There is no cost for registration, and students have the opportunity to demonstrate to their legislators how they are using technology in the classroom to improve student academic achievement. Technology Director Meeting – On September 10, 2007, a statewide meeting for technology directors will be held at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Lansing. The meeting is being presented by MACUL, MAEDS, the REMC Association of Michigan and the Michigan Department of Education. There is no cost for registration, breakfast, lunch and valet parking. As of 8/6/08, less than 70 spots are available, so register ASAP at http://orchid.forest.net/macul/TechCoordMtg/default.htm. MACUL Staff – MACUL welcomes to our staff Elissa Shaw, new Member Services Associate. The Board and SIG Leaders will have the opportunity to meet Elissa at the September MACUL Board meeting. Joint Conference of Subject Matter Organizations – I’ve met with the leaders of several Michigan educational organizations and Association Management Resources about a possible one day event next year that will have as its focus the development of integrated lesson plans/curriculum. This conference will be a joint partnership between MACUL, Michigan Business Education Association (MBEA), the Michigan Association of Middle Schools(MAMSE), and the Math (MCTM), Social Studies (MCSS) and Science (MSTA) professional associations. The two possible dates under consideration for this conference are Wednesday, June 25 or Wednesday, August 6. The MACUL Board members present at the Aug. 3 meeting preferred the June date. Corporate Advisory Council – Mike Porter and I will be participating in a conference call with the MACUL CAC on Monday, August 27. MACUL Membership statistics – I shared the latest membership statistics at the meeting. Current membership is 2914. During the 2007-2008 board meetings, membership statistics will be shared with the Board.
