Teacher Education Focus at the 2008 MACUL conference

Had a great meeting today with Susan English (Aquinas College), Julia VanderMolen (Davenport University), and Andrew Topper (Gand Valley State University). We talked about how we can establish a better MACUL conference emphasis for undergraduate and graduate students as well as schools of education faculty. Among the things we discussed are how we can create innovative ways to provide registration incentives to attend the conference, establish a poster area or student technology showcase for undergraduate and graduate students and explore options in hosting a reception on the Thursday evening of the conference presented by the Michigan schools of education. We still seek input from everyone on the following topics, especially in the area of higer education: Featured speakers (need NOW) Breakout session topics and speakers Exhibitors Attracting student volunteers Preconference workshop topics We will draft a special flyer that will be received by the schools of ed in late November/early December to publicize the conference and highlight this area of emphasis. Other follow up activities to today's meeting: Julia will publicize the MACUL conference to exhibitors at the Campus Technology conference, and will also provide Ric with more local contacts. Ric will get more info to the group on current strands. The group will be meeting again on Tuesday, August 14 at Aquinas College. All are invited to attend this meeting. If you have ideas on ways to encourage more higher ed participation in the 2008 MACUL conference, please post!

Hey Ric, if there's any thing that we can provide here on MACUL Space so that the Schools of Ed receiving the flyers have something online to show their students, let me know. I'm wondering if there are any old videos of past MACUL Grant winners and/or presentations from MACUL (like Frank Miracola's "Free is Good" presentation) that we could show off to pre-service teachers.

Ric, the Horizon 2007 Report, a "research-oriented effort that seeks to identify and describe emerging technologies likely to have a large impact on teaching, learning, or creative expression within higher education." In my min, this document should be a guideline for the speakers and activities you plan. Read through the first few pages to see the Key Trends, Critical Challenges, and Technologies to Watch.

Then, for some really practical stuff, see the Horizon 2007 wiki which Vicki Davis (of Coolcatteacher blog fame) has set up with collaboration among 6 high schools about the 6 emerging technologies identified in the report.
