For my Educational Application of Excel Assignment for CEP810, I learned how to filter information and create individual student graphs. For my Excel assignment, I included math scores for a district assessment. The assessment contained 15 mathematical concepts (such as progress toward standards like "Adding and subtracting fractions," "finding prime factorization," and "measuring and classifying angles"). Each student was given a score for each concept. Therefore, each student had 15 individual grades for the one test. I was able to enter in all of the data for each student and filter out the "scores lower than 3.0."
I indentified these students "at-risk." Ideally, I could use this information as a guide to who I need to re-teach specific concepts to. I could also create individual student graphs and show students their progress toward the standards throughout the school year. These assessments with the 15 concepts are given four times each school year. The Excel data helped me to identify which students needed re-teaching and additional academic attention. Because it's the end of the school year, this information helped with report cards!
The sorting and filtering features on Excel were very helpful in indentifying strengths and weaknesses!
